October 2009

Hello friends in music ...

Well … its 4.00am and I am sleepless in South Perth so I thought I’d put my waking time to good use and write you all an update that is well overdue.

I could use clichés and go on about time flying or I could just say that these past seven or so weeks have been jam packed with activities and opportunities and this is the first chance I have had my head clear and time to write.

Starting where I left off ... I believe in my last update, I was getting ready for the;

Gympie National Country Music Muster …

I am sure you can all appreciate that it’s not easy promoting one’s music from, and living in Perth, the most isolated city in the world and so words cannot describe how thrilled and honoured I was to be included on the bill of this iconic event.

The Muster experience is one that I will always cherish ... forget the stinking hot winter weather and the need to rush out and buy a new wardrobe from the festival markets! The atmosphere and audience cheer made me so very, very proud to be Australian and I think the crowd pictures posted on the
Muster Website say it all.

My hat goes off to Marylou Goodall who co-ordinated the exemplary entertainment, and the APEX club with its associated sister clubs who were responsible for the organisation of the festival in general. I have never been to, or seen an event so huge and so well run with so few obvious problems … and with so many happy Aussie campers – numbered in the tens of thousands!

As for my own performances … in the local vernacular; being a ‘Muster Virgin’ was a learning curve. Audiences were very appreciative and even though travelling solo was tough, it was not insurmountable. If I am included in 2010, it will be with a backing band!

USA Tour …

I left my bags packed after Gympie because just one week later, I was on a plane to Nashville.

Given that earlier this year the title track from my album, Once Again made it into the New Music Weekly Charts and according to tracking reports had been played over 9000 times on US radio, it was timely for me to visit the US again to keep my profile up.

My schedule included 19 appearances, ranging from songwriter rounds, to artist spotlights, festivals and special guest spots at venues in Nashville and it’s surrounding regions. I also attended the Americana Music Conference as well as participated in co-writing sessions with Nashville pros, the gorgeous and gifted
Deborah Allen, as well as the talented David Walker from Walker Music Enterprises.

Every day had something happening that was a highlight to remember … each one special in its own right – suffice it to say, my thanks and links are listed below or you can check out past performances and where I have actually appeared
HERE.

While I rarely get many photos of my gigs (travelling solo unfortunately leaves you at the mercy of others), I did get some filmed footage thanks to the help of young cameraman, Ian Ratliff of
Laughing Penguin Publicity. We hope to put the adventures of this Pop Tart for Old Farts eventually into a documentary!

In the meantime, you can view footage of my performances on the
Billy Block Show at 12th and Porter in Nashville ... HERE.

Back in Australia …

Back on home turf just 24 hours and it was off to rehearsal for the WA Showcase of Country Girls and Guys. The event was held last Sunday Oct 18!

A wonderful afternoon was had by all … we played a big selection of traditional country songs to an overflowing appreciative house. It was a hugely successful afternoon and so fantastic to be included in a country music experience in my own backyard … thanks to
WA Country Music Promotions for staging the event!

To the future …

Apart from regular gigs here with my guitarist extraordinaire Brad Johnson, or as a solo acoustic performer, I have another Girls Gone Gospel Show in the pipeline, scheduled for November 22, at the Italian Club in Fremantle, then guest spots at the Rocky Country Music Christmas Club, The Born in Boots Christmas Party and a Country Dance Spectacular on New Years’ Eve and then … yes … TAMWORTH!

This time, we will be driving across Australia and I will be picking up gigs along the way… I am waiting for confirmation of some spots, but you can check my already confirmed gig guide
HERE.

Lounge Lizard …

Recent stats and reports from
NfS Publicity indicate very strong airplay and rotation of my radio single; Lounge Lizard and so I would sincerely like to thank all the radio presenters and stations that 'Once Again', have been so supportive of my music. THANK YOU so very much!

Radio presenters, if you are receiving this newsletter, you can expect an invitation to a private meet and greet in Tamworth 2010 … my way of saying thanks in person!

If you are a CMAA member, please also consider voting for the track when it opens!

Speaking of Once Again, I was recently informed that a line dance has been choreographed to the song. That makes three dances that I know of that have been developed to various tunes of mine! Thanks then, must go to dance enthusiasts as well!

So ... there's my news in a not so small nutshell!

If you have read this far, I appreciate your interest ... stay well and make, play or request great music!

Warmest wishes from

Connie Kis xx
